SOUNDOFF
Author: Tony Barker, Sydney, Australia
This demonstration illustrates the superb sound quality of the Atari
STe. We have also included an equaliser to demonstrate how easy
it is to attenuate the left/right channels, treble, bass and master volume.
Each of the samples with the exception of the Kookaburra were taken from
compact disc. To minimise the size of each sample, each digital sample
was captured at 6258Hz. As you will discover, it is now possible to
obtain superb sound quality from an STe at a relatively low sample rate.
The sample of the Kookaburra (native Australian bird) was taken from a
tape recorded in the wilds of the Australian bush. Again, this
sequence was sampled at 6258Hz.
TO OPERATE:
- Double-click on SOUNDOFF.PRG to launch this demonstration.
Yes! SOUNDOFF may be launched in either low or medium resolution.
- Toggle the SPACE BAR to select your pointer preference.
- Each of the samples can be played by "clicking" on one of the
eight selections.
- Clicking once with the left mouse button will play the sample for
the full duration.
- Clicking once with the right mouse button will loop the sample.
- Selecting STOP will abort the sample.
- To attenuate any of the equaliser controls, use the mouse pointer
to select the slider knob and drag the mouse in the appropriate
direction.
- The Q key will exit SOUNDOFF and return you to the desktop.
- Be sure to connect your Atari STe to the loudest "ghetto blaster"
you can place your hands on and pump up the volume. Enjoy!
The compact disc samples used in this demonstration were adapted from
the "Sounds Incredible" compact disc series published by Sound Ideas of
Toronto Canada.
